How To Become A Christian

Here is how you can have real and lasting peace with God.  It starts with a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  Here are four simple steps with some verses from the bible.

1. Believe God loves you and has a plan for you.  John 3:16 (MSG)  "This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life."

2. Admit that like everyone else, you have committed sins, (self centered things), that separate you from God. Romans 3:23 (NIV) "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"

3. Accept that God sent his Son to give his life as payment or your sin debt.  Romans 5:8 (NIV) "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

4. Give up on trying to earn God's forgiveness and let him rescue you from the guilt of your sin; receive grace by placing your faith in Jesus Christ.  Ephesians 2:8 (NIV) "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--"  You can receive God's forgiveness now by asking Jesus to be your Lord and Savior and believing he will do it.  Romans 10:13 (NIV) "for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

To become a Christian say this simple prayer:  "Dear God, I know I am a sinner and I am asking for you to forgive me.  I believe Jesus Christ is your son and that he died for my sins.  I want to trust him to be my Lord and Savior.  Help me to follow him the rest of my life and help me live in a way that pleases you.  I pray this in the name of Jesus.  Amen

Step 5 – Would you like to receive God’s forgiveness?

We can’t earn salvation; we are saved by God’s grace when we have faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. All you have to do is believe you are a sinner, that Christ died for your sins, and ask His forgiveness. Then turn from your sins—that’s called repentance. Jesus Christ knows you and loves you. What matters to Him is the attitude of your heart, your honesty. We suggest praying the following prayer to accept Christ as your Savior:

"Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen."
